Sadly this is now CLOSED!
G'day Travellers,Yes, this WAS a great little spot for an overnighter. We've stayed here many times over the years and loved each stay. That's why when we planned a short getaway to Esperance in May 2023, we included our overnight stop here. Well, that was the plan but it didn't eventuate. Somewhere between out last visit and this one, it's been closed. There is a large mound of sand in front of the track in, the tables removed and there's no sign anymore. What a shame. We looked for somewhere else close and if you turn left onto South Coast Hwy, heading toward Albany, there is a rest stop called Calingup Road Rest Area. It was chock-a-block so we headed back toward Ravi. We found a little rest area on the corner of Jerdacuttup Road and South Coast Hwy so as we were tired we pulled in and slept in the car. Remember; Don't drive tired!
NB: we did some research when we got back and this little spot has now been removed from Main Roads' Rest Area Map.
Even though Overshot Hill is a nature reserve, we can't help thinking that in time to come we will see mining taking place in the reserve. The first step, remove the rest spot so it fades from people's minds. The second step which we wont necessarily know about, it the mining will start. We've seen a lot of mining taking place in "nature reserves" and can't help wondering is this a sign of things to come.
