We recently bought a 2003 Free Spirit, and want to fit a towbar to tow a Tilta trailer with small vehicle (max 1200kg).
I can't find the Winnie's towing capacity in the manuals - can anyone help??
Thank you. John

Hi

What vehicle is your Free Spirit RV built on?

Sheesh - sorry, I should have made it clearer: 2003 Fiat Ducato Winnebago Leisure Seeker ("Free Spirit") with the AlKo chassis. I've asked Avida (ex Winnebago) in NSW, so far without a definitive statement although the Customer Relations fellow is doing his best; even the local TJM place is trying to help.
Yours,
John.

Sorry Garry, I thought I'd replied to your qn last week - my bad.
The Winnebago is 6/2003 Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD, Al-Ko chassis, airbag rear suspension.
So far I've found: Fiat Ducato handbook (Cab Chassis) says 2000kg towing capacity; Al-Ko Handbook with the vehicle says their chassis is rated 2000kg towing; BUT - I can't find anything to say that with the Winnebago on the back, what the towing capacity of the motorhome is!
Also, it's proving difficult to find an Approved towbar. Hayman Reese offer one for "Winnebago Fiat Motorhome with Al-Ko chassis" (#02876R), rated to 1500kg and 100kg ball weight. Problem is, in addition to the difficulty getting a definite tow rating for the Winnebago, I'm not clear on who determines the ball weight limit - is it Fiat, Alko, Winnebago(Avida) or someone else??
To clarify again: our only desire (as MG nuts) is to tow the 300kg Tilta trailer with small MGs weighing between 900kg and 1150kg. It's just that we want to drive with confidence knowing we're on the right side of the law.
Garry and others: all help gratefully received - we're newbies in the motorhome world.
Yours,
John.

Gary, I did reply to your question at the time, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether.
In case it helps anyone else, the outcome was as follows;
(1) Ours is the 2003 Winnebago Leisure Seeker "Free Spirit" on the Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD with Alko chassis and rear airbag suspension.
(2) With the help of both Avida on the Winnebago side and Alko on their side, the conclusion was that for our specific vehicle the towing capacity is 1500kgs, and the towball weight limit is 80kgs. Fortunately, Hayman Reese offer a towbar to suit, and it is being fitted on Monday in Townsville.
(3) I can also say that Mike Kelly at TJM in Cairns couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring that we ticked all the boxes before buying a $700 towbar. He extracted written confirmations from all relevant authorities, so that we can drive and tow our little MGs with peace of mind.
Thanks for the forum, and I hope this is of interest to others.
Yours,
John.
